Laurie Beth Jones in her book "The Path" wrote...My uncle once told me that ...in World War II if an unidentified solider appeared suddenly in the dark and could not state his mission, he was automatically shot without question.

I wonder what would happen if we re-instituted that policy today?

If the need to know your mission/your goal really became a question of life or death, it would force millions of us to reexamine who we are and what we are really about. It would save huge amounts of money, tears and heartache. Productivity would soar, business and politics would be transformed and people would be living full vital lives. An interesting perspective. How would your life look if you knew your mission and your goals?

Today I want you to be crystal clear about your goals for real estate investing. Some possible investment goals:

* Replacing the $75,000 income you have now.
* Retire in 3 years and live on a lake
* A house with an in-law apartment for your aging parents
* Sponsor a local kid's sport team with $40,000 per year.

But in reality it doesn't matter what your financial objective is... just that you know real estate can play a pivotal role in achieving it.

But let's take a step back. Studies show that only 1 person in 20 has goals and even less have written goals.

The problem is ... How do you know you have reached your destination if you don't know where you are going?

If you have goals or even better written goals...congratulations, you are well on the way to getting from life what you want. But most don't. If you don't have goals create them and write them down. They will help keep you focused like a laser.

The key questions people must answer are:

1. what are my goals?
2. What plans do I have to achieve the goals?
3. When will I know I've succeeded?

This is a very personal topic but there is no easy way round this task. It takes time and effort but the rewards are great. The questions above are a great start. Sadly many of us spend more time planning a vacation than planning our lives. When was the last time you sat down and really thought about what you wanted to do?
Commit to making time to do this even if it is only half an hour every other day. The more you plan the more things will fall into place and you will get more of what you want! You don't have to write essays or novels. You can always get more in depth later but the key is to START.

* What are my goals? For my income, my family, my career, my relationships, my education.
* What is my goal for real estate investing?
* What steps do I need to take?
* What training do I need ?
* How will I know that I'm making progress?
* How will I know when I succeed?

If you can answer these questions- and use them to guide you-you will have a massively productive life as well as a very successful real estate career.
